With an orbital period of about 1 million years, Proxima Centauri orbits Alpha Centauri and is located approx. 4.25 light years away from our solar system. This red dwarf star is relatively small and cool compared to our own Sun, with a surface temperature of about 2670 K and a mass of about one-tenth the mass of the Sun.
